Artisan Ice Cream

& Pastry

CANAL_202408_extV2.jpg

The third CANAL location is nestled on Sophienstraße, one of Mitte's most picturesque streets. While the Linienstraße branch featured a counter façade inspired by the shape of éclairs, this design draws upon the circular form of an ice cream scoop.

Jean Prouvé's influence, always subtly present in our work, is more pronounced here. The steel counter façade directly references Prouvé’s iconic use of circles.

We maintained continuity with Solid Elm wood, used in both the dividing wall and bespoke furniture. Given the shop's intimate size, meticulous attention was paid to manufacturing details, particularly in the joinery of the solid elm table, secured with aluminium connections.

The countertop is crafted from Verde Spluga stone, a striking green marble with subtle veining, sourced from the Swiss-Italian border. For the flooring, we selected hand-glazed terracotta tiles from Provence, each with unique surface relief and colour variations, adding a touch of artisanal charm.
